Meet Your Newest Musical Obsession And Her Beautiful Baby Boy!
These feel like dark days we’re living in. And if there is anything that post-apocalyptic movies have taught me it’s that there’s nothing that can bring humanity back from the brink of darkness like a newborn baby. And that is exactly what we offer up to you here today via the incredible Miraa May. She’s written songs about all manner of things but she’s dropped a new single, just over a week ago, and it’s all about her newborn child. But, before we get to the meat and potatoes of the song itself, let’s learn a bit more about Miraa May!
May was born in Algeria but later moved to London. Tottenham specifically. She’s been performing all over London since her first EP dropped in 2012. She’s successfully performed at the London Jazz Cafe, the Tate Modern, and the Kensington Rooftop Gardens. Last year she was signed to Ariana Grande’s record label, this year she had a baby, and when lockdown is fully over I’ve no doubt she’ll be out there again next year winning audiences over with her effortlessly soulful music and powerful voice.
So please, do yourself a favour. Take 5 minutes out of your day and watch Mirra May’s latest video and reflect that every COVID death tally started out as a beautiful baby, full of potential that was eventually ripped away by sickness. And every black person who has ever died at the hands of the police was once cradled lovingly in their parent’s arms. Perhaps by remembering that these men and women around us were once infants; vulnerable, in need of our protection and compassion, perhaps then we might remember that just because people grow up doesn’t mean they stop needing compassion and protection, especially from those in power!
